Re: tubals

Does the literature say anything about tubal ligations and post-surgery menstrual abnormalities, e.g. periods which no longer come on a regular 28-day cycle?

Or, is it normal for a woman in her 30s to start having irregular periods, sometimes two a month?

Answer:

There is literature to suggest that menstrual irregularities increase slightly after a tubal ligation, possibly because the interruption of some blood vessels that create a feed-back loop bewteen the endometrium and ovary. However, menstrual irregularities can increase the closer one gets to menopause, and there are not uncommon in the middle to late 30's.
Sometimes, the process is corrected with a short cycle of oral contraceptives. Of course, other causes of irregular periods need to be ruled-out by your doctor.
