I am a high school student and I am involved in a statewide activity called Youth in Government. Those involved write bills for our state legislation. This year, my partner and I our writing a bill regarding the training of emergency technicians and docters in dealing with children. We are working on requiring those working in emergency rooms to have extra training in this area. I would be very intested in hearing what doctors have to say about this. Any suggestions, opinions or knowledge on this subject would be much appreciated.

I believe that special training both to Emergency Room Physicians (if they are not pediatricians) and also to nurses, EMT and others is necessary for the adequate care of sick and traumatized childrfen. The State of NJ recently passed legislation developing a statewide EMS service for children. This includes rules, regs, and definition of requirements for the care of children. It also includes a module nursing education. For more info contact the New Jersey Department og Health, Trenton, NJ.
