Discussion: The Future of Community Networking
- Is community networking already obsolete? Does it belong in the nonprofit sector? Can home Internet access be given or sold charitably?
- Is the Free-Net paradigm (BBS shaped like a town) dead? Is there a place for text BBSes in the age of the Web?
- Was NPTN's RIN program a good idea? Can a prefabricated CN meet the needs of a community as well as one started from scratch? Would standardization of CNs help or harm the movement as a whole?
- Should CNs continue to seek outside funding, or try to become self-sustaining?
- What questions need to be answered?
